Bedrooms, Easter and Amharic

Here's a few pictures of some of the improvements we've made around the house. Y and M's room is chocolate and pink. The window treatments will look so cute when they are installed. After 2 1/2 months of waiting, Sage and H's bunk bed finally arrived. Madison's loft bedroom is painted in an adorable combination of guacamole/lime green and chocolate brown. We still have pictures to hang on the wall and odd and ends to finish, but these are a few 'in progress' pics.

Even though it is hard to see in the photo, we extended our kitchen bar to make an "L" shape and added new formica and a tiled backsplash.

Easter was fun but the rain limited our egg hunt to the indoors. We all thought out loud about how much fun Easter would be next year with all the kids together!

Sage took hunting very seriously and borrowed an extra bucket to hold his prizes.

We were excited to find a book and cd titled Amharic for Adoptive Families. Some of you AP's may already have this great little resource. The author, Amy Kendall (an adoptive mom herself), has done a fantastic job of putting together basic phrases and key words in a small spiral book. The audio cd has been so helpful to get the emphasis just right on many of the words and phrases. Amy has books in other languages, too. A portion of the proceeds go to help children who are waiting for forever families.

Love the bedrooms!
That book was such a huge help when I traveled and when Medina was newly arrived. The other thing that helped was the Lonely Planet Amharic phrase book. It has things written in Amharic (and more variety than Simple Amharic) so when I said something wrong, I could show the Amharic to Medina, who could read a little and she could figure it out. I think I carried both books in my back pocket for several weeks.

We really enjoyed meeting you the other night and hope that we can plan something soon to get together again. The zoo sounds like it would be fun. Your kids (all 5 of them!!) are so precious and we will be praying that court is a success on the first go!

Your house looks GREAT!!! I know all the kids will be so excited to see their new rooms, new home, new family, (pets included...)

Isn't it amazing to be reminded that God knew there would be "new rooms, a new home, a new Snow family with "More than Four" many years ago!" God is Amazing!

Shelley
P.S. Praying for all to go smoothly on the Big "Court" Day!

The rooms look so good! Isn't it fun decorating your house in preparation for the new additions!?
We had that amharic book and it was awesome! The girls loved when we tried to say the phrases...and, of course, would repeat it correctly!!! It's a great way to speak to their hearts!!

I recently brought two older boys home from Ethiopia. The older one is 10 and knew some english. I ordered this book to help with some translations, and found that alot of the phrases aren't commonly used. Many of the phrases I tried on my older son worked after he corrected me :). My younger son is 4 and had no clue what I was trying to tell him.

Thanks Anon. for the note. It's nice to have that in mind if our children look at us like we are silly as we attempt to communicate! Thanks for the note. Hope you are settling in well with your sons.
